Fernando Colunga (Mexico City, March 3, 1966) is a Mexican television, theatre and film actor.

Biography[]

He dropped out from civil engineering and operated a hardware store with fellow college students. He also worked as an auto dealer, clerk, bartender, and is a huge motorcycle fanatic.

His debut on TV was in 1988 when he worked as a stuntman of Eduardo Yañez in the telenovela Dulce Desafío. In 1990, he got enrolled in the Centro de Educación Artística de Televisa in order to start his acting career after his appearance on TV.

He started to work in many telenovelas and gained recognition for his role in Plaza Sésamo, the Mexican version of Sesame Street, but it was not until 1994 when he played a role in Marimar, alongside his future co-worker Thalía, that he became popular in the Mexican television.

In 1995-1996, Colunga got his first starring role in the telenovela, Maria la del Barrio, giving life to Luis Fernando de la Vega. With this appearance, Colunga began to be known internationally and became a sex symbol to date.

After that, in 1997 he starred in Esmeralda, which was a huge international success, seen in remote countries such as Indonesia and the Czech Republic, and achieved again that recognition in 1998 with his portray of Carlos Daniel Bracho in La Ursurpadora, along with Gabriela Spanic.

His next telenovelas were Nunca Te Olvidaré in 1999 and Abrázame Muy Fuerte in 2000. In 2003, he worked in Amor Real with Adela Noriega, a succesful telenovela which received critical acclaim and had an international impact as well. After this, he took some time from TV acting and concentrated on theater, and along César Evora launched Death Trap.

In 2005, he returned to television with the telenovela Alborada, co-starred with Lucero, and later with Pasión in 2007. It was in 2008, when he portrayed Eduardo Juárez in Mañana Es Para Siempre. along with Silvia Navarro and Lucero, with whom two years later would work on the third occasion in Soy Tu Dueña, the popular remake of the 1995 telenovela La Dueña. This also marked his second collaboration with Gabriela Spanic, after La Usurpadora.

He starred alongside Blanca Soto the comedy telenovela Porque El Amor Manda as Jesús "Chucho" García in 2012, This would mark the beggining of the supposed relationship between him and Soto outside the screen.
