"Garota do momento" is a Brazilian telenovela for Rede Globo. It's an original story which will start airing on November 4, 2024

Synopsis[]

Set in the 1950s, a time known for its elegance, rebellion, and femininity, Beatriz, a young black woman, will challenge societal norms by becoming a model and the poster girl for a successful store. In the past, her real mother disappeared and her whereabouts have never been known, making the young woman fight to find out the truth about her mother, who has not seen her for sixteen years.

Meanwhile, the young woman's path crosses with another girl, also named Beatriz, without knowing that they are sisters from the same mother. Unlike the protagonist, who prefers to be called Bia, the other Beatriz is ambitious and will do anything to keep everyone out of her way. She not only competes for their mother's attention with the protagonist but also falls in love with Roberto, better known as Beto, and will set several traps to keep her sister away from him, with the help of her best friend.

Trivia[]

  • Initially, telenovela had the provisional title "Tutti Frutti" which is the same name as a famous candy made from citrus fruits and would reference the cultural movement of the 1950s, the backdrop of the telenovela. However, on June 6, 2024, during the teaser presentation of new releases for the second half of the year, it was announced that the new title of the telenovela would be "A garota do momento" inspired by the song "Girl of the Moment," which was one of the soundtracks of the film "Lady in the Dark" (1944), nominated for the 1945 Oscars. The title also refers to the protagonist of the plot, who will achieve success in the fashion and advertising world, where at the time, the term "girl of the moment" had the same weight as the current term "it girl." Subsequently, the title was simplified to "Garota do momento" fitting the term of that period.
  • Initially, the new telenovela "O país de Alice" by Lícia Manzo, had been approved to replace "Elas por elas" in the "six o'clock slot" starting in April 2024, while "No rancho fundo" by Mário Teixeira, was set to premiere only in the second half of the year. The plot, which would feature artistic direction by Natália Grimberg, would focus on a young Italian violinist discovering her family roots in Brazil. However, on August 30, 2023, TV Globo announced the cancellation of Manzo's script, which already had episodes in production, advancing Teixeira's telenovela. The main reason for the cancellation was that the plot did not have the popular appeal required by the network's current drama direction, with the upper management classifying the synopsis as elitist. With the advancement of "No rancho fundo" Alessandra Poggi's synopsis, which was initially scheduled to premiere in the first half of 2025, was moved up to replace the plot starting in November 2024, with Grimberg assuming the artistic direction after the cancellation of "O país de Alice".
  • The filmings are scheduled to take place in September 2024, in Copacabana, a neighborhood in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, and Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of the state.
  • Bella Campos and Duda Santos were the first names invited to audition for the role of protagonist Beatriz, but the latter ended up taking the role after her excellent performance in the first phase of "Renascer".
  • Initially, Rafael Vitti was considered to play the protagonist at the author's request, both because he had already starred in her first telenovela "Além da ilusão" and due to his good performance in the tests alongside Santos. However, the network decided to reassign him to the role of antagonist to distance the actor from hero roles. Subsequently, Vitti ended up leaving the project and was reassigned to another work within the network, while Michel Joelsas, Daniel Rangel, Henrique Barreira, Luan Argollo, Danilo Mesquita and Pedro Novaes were invited to audition for the role. Novaes eventually took on the character, marking his return to acting since focusing on his music career.
  • Grazi Massafera was invited to play the protagonist's mother but declined the offer due to her interest in pursuing more flexible projects, avoiding the demanding filming schedule following the tumultuous behind-the-scenes experience of the remake "Dona Beja" for the streaming service Max. She was replaced by Débora Nascimento, who returns to telenovelas since "Verão 90" (2019).
  • Larissa Manoela, who made her debut on the network starring in "Além da ilusão" was invited by the author to play the antagonist but declined the offer citing commitments to filming a movie for the streaming service Netflix, as well as prioritizing shorter projects. To take on the role of antagonist, Klara Castanho's name was initially considered by the production, which would mark her return to telenovelas after nine years since "Além do tempo" (2015-16). Initially, the negotiations did not progress. Later on, Castanho would be confirmed for the telenovela, but as the best friend of the villainous version of Beatriz.
  • Another name considered by TV Globo for the role of the main villain of the telenovela, and who would later be confirmed, was Maisa Silva, marking her debut on the network and her return to telenovelas since "Carinha de anjo" (2016-18) on SBT.
  • Initially, Eduardo Sterblitch had been cast in " Mania de você" but he was eventually reassigned to Poggi's telenovela, where he will portray a television presenter, marking his return to the time slot since "Éramos seis" (2019-20).
